Headteacher Message Friday 14th June 2024

It has been a busy week for our wonderful choir who put on a fabulous performance at the Shropshire Sing’s Festival. Thank to to all the staff and parents who supported them. The choir are now busy rehearsing for their next performance at the Shrewsbury School.

Sadly the weather put a stop to some sporting events this week but hopefully things will improve and we can get back to a full sporting schedule. On the topic of sports, I would like to thank our lunchtime supervisors for organising a superb football tournament at lunchtimes for the children. The team names were all based around the upcoming Euro 2024 competition. The games have been friendly but competitive with the final taking place today.

You should have now received a list of key dates for the coming weeks. We are currently putting together a calendar of key dates for the next academic year. this should help improve communication and give parents plenty of notice for key events.

Next week the Year 6 children will be attending Crucial Crew. This is a chance for them to learn about  social awareness and safety and provides essential life skills.

I hope you all have a nice weekend and am sure  you will join me in wishing the England football team the best of luck.

Mr Litchfield

Headteacher Message Friday 24th May 2024

What a busy half term that has been. We have had residential trips, KS2 SATs, a wide range of sporting events and bikeability training for KS1. I think the staff and children are ready for a well earned break.

The children have been collecting their house points this term and have earned an “afternoon of fun on the field.” Lets hope the weather holds out and they can enjoy their treat.

Miss Weston will be leaving us at the end of this academic year and the school have been busy interviewing for a replacement teacher. As part of the recruitment process the school council were given the task of asking the candidates some very tough questions. They were all fantastic and a credit to the school. We had some outstanding candidates but the school selected Miss Waters who is a fantastic teacher. Miss Waters will be joining us in September.

The postponed Year 5 parent consultations will take place on Tuesday 4th June and Tuesday 11th June. Time slots can be booked through Arbor.

I hope everyone has a nice break and I look forward to seeing you all when we return on Monday 3rd June.

Mr Litchfield

Headteacher Message Friday 17th May

That has been a very intense SATs week for the Year 6 children. Everyone was so impressed by their attitude and resilience when the tests this week. The maths on Wednesday  was a very tricky paper but all the children gave it their best.

As part of the school rewards system individual children can earn house points. These are collected up over time and go towards earning whole school rewards. Next Friday the children will have earned an afternoon of “fun on the field.” Well done to all the children for their hard-work.

Everyone at Much Wenlock Primary School and Nursery send their best wishes to Miss Watson who has undergone surgery on her knee. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr Wood will be teaching the Year 3 class next week to cover.

The school is continuing to have a bit of a facelift with all the lighting being replaced for LED lights. This will help save energy and reduce our electricity bill.

Have a nice weekend

Mr Litchfield

Headteacher Message Friday 10th May 2024

The nice weather has been a pleasant change recently. One added bonus of the sunshine is we can use the field at lunchtimes. This is always popular with the children and they make good use of our wonderful grounds.

The Year 4 children have spent the last 3 days enjoying a range of outdoor activities at the Pioneer Centre. I’m sure there will be lots of tired children this weekend. Look out for the photos on our school Facebook page.

Well done to the KS1 cross country runners. They put on a magnificent show at the cross country competition this week with Much Wenlock runners picking up the top three spots.

Next week the Year 6 children will be taking their end of KS2 SATs. These test start on Monday and continue until Thursday. I’m sure the children will all perform at their best and the results will reflect their hard work over the years.

Have a nice weekend

Headteacher Message Friday 3rd May 2024

The Reception and Year 1 children have really enjoyed learning to cycle this week. They showed great resilience and the trainers were full of praise for all the children. The Year 5 children were all invited for an extra swimming session at William Brookes School. Again the staff commented on the excellent behaviour of the children.

Next week the Year 4 children are off to the Pioneer Centre for a two night residential. I’m sure they will have a great time taking part in all the exciting activities planned.

Just a reminder that Monday is a Bank Holiday.

Have a nice extended weekend.

Mr Litchfield

Headteacher Message Friday 26th April 2024

It’s been a lovely week here at Much Wenlock Primary School this week. I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to teach the Year 1 class and I have been amazed by their fantastic artwork. I must admit I did especially enjoy the forest school session with them on Friday afternoon. We really do have a wonderful environment for the children  to learn and play in.

The Year 4 children all took part in a Boccia and Kurling competition at William Brookes this week. Both Much Wenlock team A and B were impressive securing gold in both the kurling and bocia events. Well done everyone.

On a more serious note you may have seen the disturbing events at a school in Wales. The security and safety of children, staff and parents are always given top priority. Over the coming weeks we will be evaluating how Much Wenlock School would respond to a critical incident and ensure that our procedures are effective. I will be sending out details of these procedures to ensure parents know what to expect in an emergency. All this will be done sensitively and without discussing any details with the children to avoid raising their concerns.

As always, if you have anything you would like to discuss about the school , both negative and positive, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Have a nice weekend

Mr Litchfield.

Headteacher Message Friday 19th April 2024

It’s been another busy week in school this week. Unfortunately we have had a number of children and staff off ill, hopefully everyone will be back in full health soon. Thank you to all the parents who attended the parent consultation meetings. If you have not yet had chance to meet your child’s teacher please contact the school and we can arrange a suitably convenient time.

A group of Upper Key Stage 2  children were fortunate enough to have been invited to Shrewsbury High School to take part in a Techanthon. This involved working in groups to solve various challenges. The children really enjoyed themselves and the Wenlock team came a very admirable second in a really difficult and competitive competition.

The Key Stage 2 SATS assessments are quickly approaching. These assessments are designed to test the children’s knowledge of the whole Key Stage 2 curriculum.  The children are working incredibly hard  to make sure they are as prepared as possible! As ever, we will support and help the pupils, to have confidence and just do their best.

Let’s hope the weather picks up soon.

Have a nice weekend.

Headteacher Message Friday 12th April 2024

Welcome back after the Easter break. I hope everyone enjoyed having the children at home for the two weeks.

Just a reminder that parent consultations will be taking place over the coming weeks. You can sign up for a time slot on Arbor. If you have any difficulties finding a time please contact the class teacher and they will organise a mutually suitable time to meet.

We are delighted to welcome back Mrs Nicholas into Year 1 after finishing her maternity leave. The children were very excited to see her and mage her feel very welcome.

We are constantly looking at improving the after school club offer and Mrs Enticknap has been busy organising a range of new clubs. You can sign up for these in the usual way through Arbor.

Have a nice weekend

Mr Litchfield

After School Club Activities

The children at the after school club have enjoyed an afternoon of Easter craft activities.

Headteacher Message Friday 21st March 2024

Another busy term draws to end. Although this has been a short term, I think the children are all ready for a well earned break.

Mrs Kennils has been working hard with the school council over the last few weeks. They have come up with some fantastic ideas on how we can improve the school. We are in the process of developing a dedicated page on the school website to showcase all of their ideas and efforts.

Mrs Nicholas will be returning from her maternity leave after the Easter break and will be teaching the Year 1 class for the rest of the academic year. I would like to thank Miss Orchard, who has been covering this maternity leave, for all the hard work and dedication she has shown to the school and the children. On behalf of all the school I wish her well as she starts a new and exciting career teaching in Wolverhampton.

Mrs Furber and our KS2 runners braved the rain when they took part in the quarry at Shrewsbury this week. Although the heavens opened during the race the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

I hope you all have a nice Easter break and I look forward to seeing you all after the holiday. Don’t forget the first day back is a PD day so the children will start back school on Tuesday 9th April.

Thank you

Mr Litchfield

Headteacher Message Friday 15th March 2024

Just a reminder that parent consultations will be taking place after the Easter break. You can book specific time slots through the Arbor app. If you have any problems please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Sunday saw children from Much Wenlock Primary School and other local schools take part in Live Arts at the weekend. The children were fantastic and we are incredibly proud of every child that entered, regardless of the outcome. It demonstrates bravery and tenacity to perform to a room full of competitors and observers – you felt the fear and did it any way.

A huge thank you to The Live Arts team – warm, encouraging and extremely well organised. Thank goodness there are incredible volunteers who give up their time to provide such great opportunities for our children.
Our curriculum drivers are Community, Communication, Connections, Change.
This was demonstrated in abundance this weekend. This is The Wenlock Way.

Have a nice weekend.

Headteacher Message Friday 8th March 2024

What a busy week that has been.

The children really did celebrate World Book Day in style. It was lovely to see so many children and staff dressed up for the day. The children have been taking part in a range of activities during the week to promote the love of reading which culminated in the Much Wenlock Bake Off. The quality of the cakes was amazing and they tasted just as good. On behalf of the school I would like to thank everyone who contributed to make the day so special.

Next Thursday, 14th March is Red Nose Day. Children can come to school wearing something red. Parents can make donations through to the charity via the Arbor shop.

Have a nice weekend.

Headteacher Message Friday 1st March 2024

Another busy week comes to an end. It was lovely to see so many parents and families at the Reception parent lunch. I hope everyone enjoyed the delicious roast chicken dinner.

The Live Arts Festival will be taking place on Sunday 10th March. We have a range of entries from Much Wenlock Primary School this year and the children are all busy preparing for the day. I’m sure that there will be lots of medals awarded for their excellent performances.

Next Thursday is world book day and this year we will be having a school bake off. Children can bring in their home-made cakes ready to be judged and eaten in the afternoon. There will be lots of activities throughout the day to celebrate and promote reading.

Have a nice weekend.

Spar Donations

A Huge thank you to the Spar in Much Wenlock for donating a fantastic collection of  items to Much Wenlock Primary School.

Headteacher Message Friday 23rd February 2024

Welcome back after the half term break. We took the opportunity during the holidays to give parts of the school a make over. The front office has been redecorated and is now looking much more modern and fresh. We have had the hall painted, which it really needed, along with various other rooms within the school. The Leadership of the school are now looking at developing other areas within the school.

Sadly this week we have had to cancel a number of sporting events due to the weather. Hopefully these will be run at a later date.

Next week the Reception parents are invited in to share a lovely roast lunch on Wednesday.

There are a number of events coming up before Easter. World book day and Red Nose Day are both around the corner and the school will be celebrating both of these. Look out for more details coming out soon.

Have a good weekend

Mr Litchfield

Headteacher Message Friday 9th February 2024

I realise that this half term was a short one but it seems to have flown by.

There has been lots going on this week, both in and out of school. The Year 6 children did themselves proud when they performed their routine in the dance festival at William Brookes School. Thank you to all the parents who went along to support the children and a big thank you to Mr Richards and Mrs Furber for choregraphing the dance.

Our new school council had their inaugural meeting this week. The children were fantastic and came up with lots of ideas for improving the school. Look out for more information in the coming weeks.

The Nursery children have been having a ball this week. The rain certainly didn’t dampen their spirits as the enjoyed splashing in the puddles. They have also been busy creating a dragon whilst learning all about the Great Race and New Year Traditions. This all ended with a Dragon dance in the hall followed by a Dragon tour of the school. Year Four were particularly impressed with their visit and gave a huge round of applause to our littlest learners! You can see the video on the school Facebook Page.

I hope everyone has a nice half term break and I look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 19th February.

Mr Litchfield

Rainy Day Fun

It’s raining, it’s pouring…but that won’t stop us! Nursery Children had a whale of a time running, jumping, splishing and splashing through the puddles today! There was so much to explore: what happens when you roll a tyre through the puddle, what water feels like, how jumping can make your splashes VERY high, and what things can float and sink. But the biggest thing to measure today…the bigger the splash, the louder the giggles!
