Headteacher Message Friday 17th November 2023

That’s been another eventful and exciting week at Much Wenlock Primary School. The week started off with an excellent information session for the governors on how the local governing body operates within a Trust. The school has also elected two new staff governors, Mr Richards and Mrs Hinds.

We held an open morning on Tuesday for parents with children starting in September 2024. This was an opportunity to have a tour of the school and meet some of the EYFS staff. There will be another chance to view the school on Wednesday 22nd November at 1:30 pm.

Tuesday saw the launch of our new drama after school club. This has proven to be very popular and will hopefully result in a performance for parents later in the year.

The Year 5 and Year 6 children has a presentation from the dog trust. This was an informative session on how to look after our canine friends as well as staying safe around dogs.

The ever popular parent lunches have started again. We had a great turn out from Year 3 parents this week. Next week it is the turn of the Year 4 parents to join their children for a delicious roast dinner.

The week ended with a spotty day for Children in Need. A special thank you to Karen in the kitchen for making some lovely Pudsey biscuits.

Next Monday, we have the school photographer to take individual photos. Any pre-school children who would like to have sibling photos, please come in at 8am to have your special photo session.

Have a nice weekend

Headteacher Message Friday 10th November 2023

What a tuneful week that has been. The children really enjoyed and embraced music week this week and produced some lovely musical pieces. I would highly recommend watching some of the videos on the website and the school Facebook Page as there are some highly talented children on show. It was lovely to see some ex pupils at William Brookes return to perform for the children. I’m sure lots of children will have been inspired to go on and learn an instrument.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended the parent’s evenings. The feedback has been very positive. If you have not managed to arrange a meeting with the class teacher please contact the school.

I was very proud to take a group of Year 5 children to the Old Cemetery today to place crosses at the gravestones of people who dies in the war. The children then read their own poems as a mark of remembrance to all those who have given their lives in battle. It was a very moving and memorable experience.

Next week we will be holding an open morning on Tuesday 14th November. This is a chance for parents of children who will be starting school in September to come and view the  school.

Finally can I please ask that parents park safely when dropping off and picking up. It gets very busy at these times and it’s important that we put the safety of children and their families first, even if this means walking a little further from your car to the school.

Have a nice weekend

Headteacher Message Friday 15th September 2023

Well that was the first full week back and already there is a lot going on. The Year 6 children have spent the week at Arete enjoying a range of outdoor adventure activities. From the photos on the school website and Facebook Page it looks like they have had a great time.

The Year 5 children all visited Wenlock Pottery to make some tiles to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the school. Each class will take it in turns over the coming weeks to visit and create their unique individual tile. I’m sure the final display will look fantastic.

Mrs Furber and Mrs Steele both attended the Autumn term sports seminar on Thursday. This is when local schools meet to put together a timetable for sporting events for the term. A final list of activities and dates will be published next week.

Just a reminder that the school times are 8:45am – 3:15pm and for the Nursery it is 9:00am – 3:00pm and the new email address is info@wps.318education.co.uk.

There will be parent consultations on Wednesday 8th November and Thursday 9th November. You can sign up through the Arbor app. If you have any problems finding a slot please contact the school.

Have a nice weekend

Headteacher Message Friday 14th July 2023

It has been a very exciting and eventful week for the Year 4 children this week as they went on their residential to the Pioneer Centre. From talking to the children and staff it sounds like everyone had a great time. There are lots of photos on the school Facebook page to enjoy. I would like to thank all the staff who went along with the children, it is much appreciated by all.

I had the privilege of joining the school councillors at the auditions for Wenlock’s Got Talent this week. We have an amazing abundance of talent in the school and it was a really difficult decision to pick the acts to go through to the final next week. Thank you to all the children who auditioned, you were all fabulous. I’m hoping to get some video footage of the final acts.

The end of year school reports have been sent out today. If you would like to discuss the report or would like a paper copy please contact the school.

Just a reminder that the school times will be changing in September. The doors will be opening at the slightly earlier time of 8:40 and registration will be at 8:45. This is to ensure we meet the requirements for the length of a school day set out by the Department of Education.

It is the last week for the Year 6 children next week before they move on to Secondary school. We wish them well and I’m sure they will achieve great things in their academic careers.  We will be saying goodbye to a number of  staff members too as Miss Turner, Mr Greenwood and Miss Brassington will be leaving at the end of this academic year.

We will be ending next week with a colour run. Everyone should have received details about the event. Please ensure you let us know if your child can take part by completing the Parentmail form.

Have a nice weekend

Headteacher Message Friday 23rd June 2023

I had the pleasure of visiting St Martin’s School in Oswestry for three days this week. St Martins is an all through school and cater for children from 3 years to 16 years old. It was a very useful experience, particularly seeing the transition from primary to secondary, and provided lots of ideas to bring back to Much Wenlock.

It has been a very busy week here at Much Wenlock Primary School with children taking part in a whole range of extra curricular activities. A group of Y5 children attended a dance festival at Shrewsbury High School. This was fully funded by the high school and proved to be a great success with the children. A video of the dance can be found on the school website and on the school Facebook page.

All the Y6 children spent Thursday attending Crucial Crew in Bridgnorth. This annual event provides personal safety training and awareness courses for youngsters who are about to leave primary school and move on to the next phase of their education.  The aim is to raise awareness of issues which might affect their health or wellbeing, including circumstances where they or others may be exposed to danger. From the feedback I have revived the children had a great time.

Next week, Thursday 29th June, is sports day. Nursery, Reception and KS1 children will be taking part in their activities in the morning from 9:15 to 11:30. KS2 sports day will be from 1:00 – 3:15. We are hoping to offer refreshments for parents and carers attending. If anyone would like to volunteer to help serve the refreshments please contact the school.

We have had a large outbreak of chicken pox in the Reception and Nursery classes. Please keep an eye out for any symptoms and children should be kept at home until the spots have scabbed over, which usually happens after 5 days. Details of symptoms can be found on the NHS website using the following link.

NHS – chickenpox

New Class Teachers

We are delighted to be able to announce our new Year teachers for September!

Reception
Clare Marsh – SENDCO

I am passionate about education for all and will do my utmost to ensure that all children are included in all areas of school life. I have been teaching for twenty-five years and have been at Much Wenlock Primary School for nine years and have enjoyed every minute. The community spirit and nurturing staff is the reason I have remained for so long; it reminds me of my primary school days which I thoroughly enjoyed.

In my own time I enjoy spending time with my family, my partner Andy and my children Luke, Toby and Evie. We like to take our dog Teddy out for long walks. I also enjoy listening to and playing music, singing and reading.

I became SENDCO for the school five years ago. This is where my heart lies. My daughter, Evie is Autistic, has significant speech, language, communication and learning difficulties. As a parent of a child with special needs I know how hard it is and wanted to be able to help others having similar experiences to myself and my family. This is why I became a SENDCO, to advocate for the children in our school and their families.

I look forward to meeting and working with you and your child or children very soon  🙂

Year 1 Maternity Cover Sept – Easter 2024
Charlotte Orchard

I have been teaching for the past 7 years and joined Much Wenlock Primary School in January. I am passionate about creating learning experiences that are purposeful and engaging. I particularly love exploring the natural world with my students. We are so lucky to have such beautiful natural spaces at Much Wenlock! Outside of school, I enjoy taking my dog, Gina, for a walk, reading in the garden, and playing my violin in local orchestras

Year 1 From Easter 2024
Emma Nicholas

I have worked at Much Wenlock for the last 2 years but have taught across Early Years for 10 years. I love musical theatre and travelling – I have lived in some amazing places when growing up including the Falkland Islands and went to school in Germany. I am having a baby girl in July and look forward to being apart of the school again when I return from Maternity Leave!

Year 2
Steph Weston (Part time)

Going into my third year here at Much Wenlock, having taught in year 5 and in year 2. My goal is for all my children in my class to find enjoyment in learning and know that anything is possible. I have a strong passion for PSHE and history. In my free time I enjoy running and getting out to the beach as much as possible.

Year 2 (Part time) & Music Co-ordinator
Karen Ball

I am in my 11th year of teaching at Much Wenlock Primary School during which time I have taught in both lower Key stage 2 and Key stage 1 and have had 2 daughters! I hope to enthuse and support children in their learning across the curriculum, especially Maths and Music which I enjoy myself and I am the school’s music co-ordinator.  I play the piano and enjoy singing with my local church choir. I am also a Brownie Leader and run a Brownie unit near where I live!

Year 3
New staff member (Miss) Isobel Watson

Hello, I’m Miss Watson and will be teaching in Year 3 come September. I am an ECT, who has recently qualified with West Midlands Consortium and I’m excited to begin my career in Much Wenlock school!  I have recently completed placements teaching in two local schools, in both key stage 1 and 2 and can’t wait to continue my journey with year 3.  I have a keen interest in art and love to paint, and plan on using this passion to make learning creative and fun for pupils.

Year 4  – Science / RE coordinator & Educational Visits Coordinator
(Mrs)Innes Jameson

This is my 20th year teaching at Much Wenlock, so lots of families already know me and I enjoy hearing about how former pupils are getting on.  I am the Educational Visits coordinator which means I monitor the planning and safety of all trips out of school. As we move well past Covid, I am looking to encourage more out of school learning experiences.
I have 2 grown up children of my own.

Year 5 & Deputy Head Teacher
(Mrs)Rachel Howell-James

I have worked as a primary teacher for 12 years. For the last 5 years, I have been the assistant head, head of curriculum and head of teaching and learning at Broseley C of E. My passion is working with the whole school community to ensure the best outcomes for the children and to empower everyone (adults and children alike) to be the best they can be. I’m at my happiest when I see people succeeding.
Once I’m on the dance floor, you’ll have a hard time to get me off it!

Year 6
(Mr)Tom Richards

I have been teaching for 7 years now, and I have taught at Much Wenlock for one wonderful year. I love for my students to feel like they are doing things that matter (whether in an imaginary world or the real-world) and to develop skills and attitudes that enable them to do whatever it is they want to do in the future. Although a keen cricketer, footballer and trail runner, I do like to treat myself with a good computer game occasionally! You may find my class and me singing pop songs, doing workouts or perfecting our dance routines.

New KS1 HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)
(Mrs)Caroline Wells

I have been at Much Wenlock Primary School for the past 9 years and have spent the past year completing my Higher Level Teaching Assistant Qualification. I love working within school and the fellow teachers and children inspire me everyday. I am a keen runner and this year ran the London Marathon is aid of the Downs Syndrome Association and raised over £3000!

New KS2 HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)
