Welcome to Year 4.
This half term spellings will be sent home on Fridays. Please look out for further examples of the spelling focus in the environment and while pupils are reading. In May, the children will be doing a multiplication test, so every week, and spare moment, pupils need to be practicing times tables.
I am encouraging the children to make entries in their reading diaries when they read. Parents and carers are also welcome to add comments. In the diaries, a list of the year 3 and 4 spelling words can be found. Pupils need to know the meaning of all these words and how to spell them.
Our main topic is China. Please support the children in finding out lots about the country, past and present. Children love to look at maps and atlases, so please encourage them in this. We will also find out how mountains are formed. Our art is based on the water colours of Qi Bashi.
In Science, we will learn about sound; looking at how to alter the pitch; discovering what happens as we move away from the source and investigating the structure of the ear.
Please remember that all children need their recorders in school on Wednesdays.
We have PE on Wednesdays this term; the children are doing dance and ball skills, then football and cross country.
