Welcome to Year 6

Hello and welcome to the Year 6 Class of 2024 class page!

Here, we will share with you our incredible learning, our adventures and all news relating to our class.

Please find information below about what is coming up in the second half-term!

Key Information – Spring Term

Maths

Here is the learning we will be covering in Maths:

  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions
  • Place value within 1 (decimals)
  • Percentages
  • Fractions – Decimals- Percentages: Equivalences

Resources to access from home:

We used Mangahigh for our home learning, which acts as a revision tool to support children with refreshing key skills from previous years. However, you and your child may like to get involved in additional learning at home,. which allows for a more bespoke approach. Here are some great resources you can access:

Corbett Maths Primary – video tutorials accompanied with practice questions (and answers). Please note that sometimes different language to what we use in school may be used – this is absolutely okay and it is beneficial for students to learn that there are multiple ways of saying and doing things.

Reading

Year 6 have chosen the spooky ‘Cater Lake’ by Jennifer Killick as our class book this term.

There are three rules for surviving Crater Lake: don’t go anywhere with an adult; don’t follow any instructions you’re given; and don’t ever fall asleep…

Writing

We will be looking at two fantastic books, which link to the amazing Charles Darwin. The first of these is ‘Island: A Story of the Galapagos’ and the second is ‘Jemmy Button’. We will be working towards writing independent news reports, building on our learning from the previous term.

Science

In Science, we will be learning about living things and evolution. This will link with our English!

PE

PE is now on Thursday afternoons, with Mr Bourton.
