Curriculum Intent
Welcome to our curriculum page.
We are extremely proud of the curriculum which is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. The uniqueness of every child is recognised and valued and we celebrate and develop the individual talents of our pupils. As such, our curriculum embraces the community from which it exists, recognising the varied backgrounds and experiences from which our children originate.
Our Curriculum embraces the local community which is rich in cultural heritage and has a strong sporting identity. As such our children have many opportunities for sport; many visits to places of natural interest; visits to places of historical significance for their history learning; visits to develop their knowledge of geography about our local area that can then be applied to their wider geography knowledge
The teachers use interesting and relevant themes combined with a wide range of reading materials to engage children and maximise learning for all. The curriculum is further enriched through the wide range of after-school club provision and sporting competitions. All of the children have the opportunity to learn to play a range of musical instruments including recorders, glockenspiels and the ukulele.
The school has adopted a teaching for mastery approach for maths which gives pupils a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. Whole Class Reading and the Monster Phonics programme is used to support phonics teaching and reading.
We constantly adapt our learning journey to meet the needs and interests of our children, offering an excellent education underpinned by a broad, culturally rich and well planned curriculum to ensure that all pupils are well equipped for the next stages in their education. By the time the children leave for secondary school, they have developed a thirst for learning, determination to succeed and respect for each other.
