Headteacher Message 14th October 2022

Thank you to all the parents who attended the drop afternoon this week. The school is keen to increase the opportunities for parents to come into school and views the children’s work. After half term we will be reintroducing parent lunches with each class taking turns to invite their parents in for lunch followed by a cup of tea or coffee in the classroom. Please look out for more information and dates after the half term break.

All the Year 6 children enjoyed their activity afternoon at William Brookes this week. The Bronze Ambassadors also put on a fantastic curling event for the Year 3 and Year 4 children on Monday. I’m sure this will be the start of many activities run by the ambassadors over the coming year.

On Thursday we had the school photographer in to take individual photos. Hopefully the quality has improved as we have had some issues recently. Please do let us know your thoughts.

Just a reminder that the school disco is next week on Wednesday 19th October.

We will be holding class elections for school councillors next week. Each KS2 class and Year 2 will vote for representatives to be on the school council.

Finally, we have been asked by William Brookes School to take part in an exciting project linked to remembrance day. We are asking children and families to make poppies from recycled plastic bottles to make a display on Windmill Hill. A separate email will be sent out along with a YouTube clip  on how to make the poppies.

Have a nice weekend.

Mr Litchfield

There have been some strange goings on in Class 2 over the last few weeks, including finding a dragon egg in the Willow Den and we even captured a picture of a dragon on camera! We have been writing instructions and recounts about these experiences and today received a parcel with our own class dragon!

Headteacher Message 10th June 2022

I hope everyone had a nice half term break and enjoyed the long Jubilee Bank holiday. The children have all returned to school in good spirits and have got straight back into their learning. The Y6 children have had a messy time making model hearts, blood and even scabs. It looked great fun and very educational. Look out for the photos coming soon. The choir has been in full voice and represented the school at the Shropshire Sings event on Wednesday evening. From the reports I have received it was an amazing experience and the children did themselves proud. Thank you to all the staff for giving up their time to support the children both on the night and during lunch choir practice. Mrs Furber and Miss Brassington have had a very busy week with our sporting stars. On Tuesday Miss Brassington took a rounders team to Oldbury Wells school for a tournament. On Wednesday Mrs Furber took a group of children to the Paralympic festival at  William Brookes and finally our cricket team took part in the cricket tournament at Cound cricket ground on Friday.  At all the events the children were superb both in their sporting skills and in their sportsmanship. Thank you to all the staff for your support. On the subject of sports, we have pencilled in Monday July 4th for our sports day. KS1 and Reception will be in the morning and KS2 in the afternoon. We will send out more details nearer the time and of course this is all weather dependent.

Finally I have had a request from residents living on Oakfield Park to please consider the local residents when parking and not cause an obstruction.

Have a nice weekend.

Mr Litchfield

Headteacher Message

If there is one thing we can take away from everything that has happened around the world over the last few years it is the importance of a good old fashioned chat. When you see the way the person you are talking to reacts, their body language, facial expressions and tone of voice, gives you an instant feedback as to the person’s feelings. Emojis can only reveal so much! It may seem an obvious thing to say, but one of the best things we can do with young children is to have interesting and enjoyable conversations with them. At Much Wenlock Primary School and Nursery, speaking and listening is embedded in our curriculum from Nursery to Year 6.

The Early Years Team have created a rich, varied and safe space in which children can play, explore and learn. The children are immersed in a vocabulary rich environment with nursery rhymes, songs and stories being heard throughout the day. This then becomes the foundation for children to develop their reading and writing as they move through the school. As James Britton put it “good literacy floats on a sea of talk.”

I hope everyone gets the chance to sit down with their children at some point this weekend and enjoy a good story together.

Have a nice weekend.

Mr Litchfield
